LEGO Star Wars DK Exclusive Concept Boba Fett Minifigure

LEGO Star Wars White Boba Fett Concept Minifigure Review

Introduced in 2015 is the LEGO Star Wars concept Boba Fett minifigure, based on Ralph McQuarrie’s concept drawings of the famous bounty hunter. The armor printing on the torso reflects the legendary concept artist’s designs, as well as an earlier evolution of Boba Fett’s helmet as characterized by the somewhat narrower visor and the single red triangle. The jetpack piece, however, retains the same mold as other LEGO Boba Fett minifigures from the same era. If you have one, congratulations: You are the proud owner of the world’s first McQuarrie concept LEGO minifigure!

The announcement of this unique minifigure was made by the official Star Wars website on February 19, 2015.

Unlike the first version that marked the 30th anniversary of The Empire Strikes back, the second rendition of the white Boba Fett minifigure is packaged in a mini clamshell inside each copy of the 2015 edition of LEGO Star Wars Character Encyclopedia: Updated and Expanded with a presumably much larger run, which makes it much more accessible to both collectors and kids alike.

Other ways the second white Boba Fett minifigure differs from its predecessor is it comes pre-assembled minus the jetpack and a single antenna piece, and also boasts considerably more print detail in multiple colors and shades. Printing can be found on not only the helmet, front of the torso, and on the legs but also on the hip piece and the back, despite the latter being almost completely concealed by the jetpack once fully assembled. Remove the concept helmet and you will be greeted by a younger looking face, free of LEGO Boba Fett’s usual battle scars and five o’clock shadow. No cape or weapon is included.

This minifigure was rereleased in the fall of 2017 in the LEGO Star Wars Secrets of the Force two-volume set, sold only in Asda stores in the UK. The two books included are Chronicles of the Force and a LEGO Star Wars Character Guide, and this time Boba Fett is packaged alongside a LEGO Unkar’s Brute minifigure.

Unfortunately, the secondary market is flooded with LEGO-compatible replica white concept Boba Fett minifigures. Perhaps the most obvious way to avoid confusion is the title and price tag. Usually a phrase such as “LEGO compatible” is included and of course the price will be considerably lower. Visually speaking there are also a few cues to look for. The real version features multiple shades of printing on the torso including a faded charcoal blue marking on either side of the buckle whereas the counterfeit versions will only have black and grey. The replicas will also commonly include one or two guns as well as a black rangefinder helmet attachment instead of grey. Overall print quality is also likely to differ.
